After installing ACT! or an ACT! update, you cannot open the software and the following message appears:
'ACT! has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
This can be caused by a damaged installation. However, if a manual uninstall and reinstall of ACT!, SQL and .NET does not resolve the issue, it may be caused by a .NET optimisation service.
Product Family: Sage ACT!
Product: Sage ACT! Pro (UK Edition), Sage ACT! Premium (UK Edition)
You can alter the way the optimisation service runs, or stop it altogether to force .NET to run with .NET 1.1 behaviour.

- Type cd\ > Enter.
- Type cd Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework\[dotNetVersion] > Enter.
- Type ngen executeQueuedItems > Enter.
Note: Replace [dotNetVersion] with the relevant version number.
To stop the optimisation serviceStart > Run > type services.msc > locate and right-click .NET Runtime Optimisation Service > Stop.
Tip: To stop the service permanently, double-click the service and set Startup type to Disabled.
