Error: "Rule "Same architecture installation" failed." When Installing Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 R2 on a 64-bit Microsoft Windows® Operating System
You are attempting to install SQL Server 2008 R2 in conjunction with Sage ACT! on a 64-bit Windows operating system and receive the error: "Rule "Same architecture installation" failed. The CPU architecture of installing feature(s) is different than the instance specified. To continue, add features to this instance with the same architecture.".
This error can occur when installing on a 64-bit operating system under the following circumstances:
You have the 32-bit version of SQL Server 2005 installed, and are attempting to upgrade it to the 64-bit version of SQL Server 2008 R2
You have the 64-bit version of SQL Server 2005 installed, and are attempting to upgrade it to the 32-bit version of SQL Server 2008 R2
To resolve this issue, you must first uninstall the version of SQL Server 2005 before installing SQL Server 2008 R2.
