Installation Prerequisites
IMPORTANT: Before installing Act! Growth Suite, read the information below.
- Prior to installing Act!, ensure that your computer meets the system requirements. For information regarding the system requirements for Act! Growth Suite v23, go to https://www.act.com/products/system-requirements
- Ensure that you are logged into the computer as a Local Administrator
- If you plan to have two or more Act! users, all connected to the same database and the database is on a separate server, you do not need to install Microsoft SQL Server Express on every computer. However, some features will be unavailable on machines you choose not to install Microsoft SQL Server Express on. For information, refer to the following knowledgebase article:

- If you plan to use Microsoft Office integration features, ensure that compatible versions (as per the system requirements) of Outlook, Word, and Excel are installed and working correctly before you install Act!. If you install Outlook, Word, or Excel after you install Act!, the integration will not function.
Downloading Act!

Downloading in Internet Explorer
- On the download page, click Download
- At the bottom of the screen, click Save
- When the download completes, click Run to launch the WinZip Self-Extractor
- When the WinZip Self-Extractor completes, the Installation menu will appear. Follow the instructions in the Installing Act! section of this article
Downloading in Chrome
- On the download page, click Download. The download will start automatically in the bottom left corner of the browser window
- Once the download is complete, click the file name to launch the WinZip Self-Extractor
- When the WinZip Self-Extractor completes, the Installation screen will appear. Follow the instructions in the Installing Act! section of this article
Downloading in Mozilla Firefox
- On the download page, click Download.
- In the window that appears, click Save File
- When the download finishes, click the green arrow to display the download and click the file to launch the WinZip Self-Extractor
- When the WinZip Self-Extractor completes, the Installation screen will appear. Follow the instructions in the Installing Act! section of this article
Installing Act! v23
Warning: You may be prompted to reboot multiple times during the installation. If so, click Yes to allow the installer to reboot. When you log back into your computer, the installation process should continue
Follow the steps below depending on your desired installation type:
Typical Installation: Install Act! with default settings in the default location
- Ensure that all programs and files are closed
- On the Installation screen, click Install Act!
Note: If not present, the InstallShield Wizard will install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86). Additionally, if you do not have Microsoft .NET 4.7 You will be prompted to install it. Finally, the setup will also install SQL Server Express 2014 for new installations of Act!.
- When prompted, select the appropriate country in the Regional Version screen, then click Next
- Read and Accept the License agreement
- Choose the Typical installation type
- Follow the on screen instructions to begin the installation process
- When the Act! Install Complete dialog appears, check the desired options, then click Finish
Custom Installation: Install Act! without SQL Server Express or to a custom location
- Ensure that all programs and files are closed
- On the Installation screen, click Install Act!
Note: If not present, the InstallShield Wizard will install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86). Additionally, if you do not have Microsoft .NET 4.7 You will be prompted to install it.
- When prompted, select the appropriate country in the Regional Version screen, then click Next
- Read and Accept the License agreement
- Choose the Custom installation type
- Choose whether you want to install SQL Server Express, then click Yes to confirm
- Choose whether to accept the default directory for installation, or choose a custom location, then click Next
Note: While possible to install to a custom location is possible, it is recommended to install to the default location.
- Choose whether you want to allow other users on the computer to be able to use Act! or only the current logged in user, then click Next
- Take note of the Program Folder name, then click Next
Note: Although you can enter a different folder name or choose from a list of existing folders, it is recommended that you note the default folder
- If an email database from a previous installation of Act! is detected, when prompted, choose the options to save a copy or do not save a copy before conversion, then click Next
- On the Act! icons dialogue box, enable the desired options, then click Next to begin the installation process
- When the Act! Install Complete dialog appears, check the desired options, then click Finish
