Question: What is the difference between the Act! Premium Web API and Act! Connect Link?
Product Family: Act!
Product: Act! Premium, Act! Premium (access via web)
Version: v18.1 and later
Integration: Act! Premium Web API, Act! Connect Link
While the Act! Premium Web API and the Act! Connect Link both allow you to use Act! Connect to connect your database to additional services as part of your Act! Premium Subscription, they are each deployed and operate differently, based off of how you use Act!. See the below chart for differences in functionality and requirements
|Included with Act! Premium (access via web) product and must be installed separately on your webserver as an Internet Information Services (IIS) application
Also included in Act! Premium Cloud subscription, but does not require end-user installation, so it’s ready to start using.
|Included with Act! Premium for Windows (v18.2 and later) product and must be installed separately as a desktop application on your database server or computer hosting the database|
|Requires an HTTPS (SSL) connection. Act! Premium (access via web) users hosting their own databases must configure this themselves or have an IT Professional configure this for them. Act! does not provide support for this.||HTTPS (SSL) connectivity is managed by the installed Act! Connect Link desktop application, eliminating the need to configure SSL yourself|
|Requires a valid certificate from a Certificate Authority to enable SSL, which may incur a cost. (Self-signed certificates will not work)||SSL connectivity is managed by the installed Act! Connect Link desktop application, eliminating the need for obtaining a certificate from a Certificate Authority|
|Uses the Act! Premium (access via web) or Act! Premium Cloud URL, the same URL you use to access your database through your browser.||Uses the URL which appears in the Act! Connect screen|
|May need to add a rule to your firewall or proxy server to allow traffic through the port assigned to the Act! Premium Web API||No need to add rules to the firewall or proxy server|
