What is the Act! API?
The Act! API is a set of functions that allow for integration between your Act! database and a number of other features and services either provided by Act! or other 3rd parties. Some of these features will work natively as soon as Act! has been installed. Other features will require additional software in order to work.

What do I need to do to use these features?
There are 3 ways in which the Act! API is used by the Act! software.
- A native API service that installs alongside your Act! Premium software and helps to support the Act! Insight and Opportunity KPI features
Please Note: This service is listed in Windows Services (services.msc) as ‘Act! Web API Host’ and is for Act! Premium (Desktop) Only, not Act! Premium (Web). For these features to work in Act! Premium (Web) it requires your website to be correctly configured and your database to be added to the site. Please refer to How to Configure Act! Premium for Web for Act! API Features for more information.
- The Act! Connect Link – A separately installed API application that provides a secure API URL capable of supporting all Act! API features
- The Act! Web API – A self-hosted Act! API provided with an installation of Act! Premium for Web.

How do I set up the Act! API?
Please Note: A number of features that can integrate with Act! require a secure external connection to the Act! API in order to work. This includes some connections present in the software such as Act! Marketing Automation, and includes all third party integrations such as the Zapier service.
In order to create a secure external connection to your Act! API, you must install either the Act! Connect Link (available with Act! Premium, Act! Premium Plus, Act! Premium for Web), OR the Act! Web API (available with Act! Premium for Web).
Please Note: If you want to make use of the Act! Web API, you will need a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificate. If you do not have this, you will need to use the Act! Connect Link instead.
