Solution:
Option 1: Use the Save Icon or Ctrl + S (Word 2013 and Word 2016 only)
In some cases, this will occur if you are using File > Save or File > Save As. To work around it, try either clicking the Save icon or pressing Ctrl + S on your keyboard. If unsuccessful, proceed to the next option.
Option 2: Put quotations around the file name
- While editing your letter template in Word, click File > Save as
- In the Save As dialog, navigate (if necessary) to the location you wish to save the file
Note: If presented with an option to select the file location from a list of favorites, do not select it from this list as it will prevent you from putting quotations around the file name. Manually browse to the location instead. For the default location for letter and email templates, refer to the following knowledgebase article:

- In the File name field, change the .doc extension to .adt, and surround the entire contents of the File name field with quotation marks. For example: “[filename].adt”
- Click the Save button and close Microsoft Word
- Attempt to write a letter using the template to test
Option 3: Save the file as a .doc, then rename the file to .adt
Note: Before proceeding with these steps, ensure that your operating system is configured to show file extensions. For information on doing this, refer to the following knowledgebase article:
