The size of the elements which display in many Microsoft .NET based applications, including Act!, is dependent upon the resolution setting of the computer’s display. This setting, when modified, alters the size of the text and elements on the screen proportionally to each other, resulting in elements and text with an even appearance in relation to each other. The higher the resolution setting is on the screen, the more that will fit on the screen, however, this will also result in text and program elements which appear small, which can sometimes result in difficulty reading. To counteract this, many people will adjust the DPI settings to a higher setting than 96 DPI. The DPI settings allow you to make changes to the size of the text that appears within programs on your computer, however this change occurs independently of the size of the elements within the programs.
With programs, such as Act!, which were developed with elements that were meant to display text scaled at 96 DPI, changing the DPI to a larger number results in text which is legible, however it does not properly fit within the boundaries of the elements because the elements were not designed to contain a text of that size. In general, this can lead to clipped user interface (UI) elements, pixilated text, misalignment of elements within the program, and/or, incorrect rendering of the program layout.
