When installing Act! or applying an update, a prompt appears requesting that I close Microsoft applications
Product Family: Act!
Deployment: On-Premise only
Cause: This is caused by Microsoft programs running when Act! is being installed. They must be closed during the installation process, but the installer can do this for you.
When installing Act! or an update, you may see the following message:
At this point, you can close down the applications listed on the screen before clicking Next. This will then continue with the rest of the installation.
NOTE: Please make sure to save your work before closing down any of the listed programs.
Occasionally even after closing the programs down, they may still be running in the background on your PC. In this case, when you click Next you will then receive another prompt:
Clicking Next at this point will cause the installer to automatically close any of those background processes for you. You will see one final prompt warning you to save your work:
Clicking Yes to this message will close down all the background processes and continue with the installation.
Rebooting the Computer
If the installer is unable to close the open Microsoft programs:
- Reboot the computer
- Attempt to install Act! or apply the update again
